Summerfields West Summer 2021 Newsletter

Letter From the Developer

Summer is well under way and we were very confident that the clubhouse and pool would be ready for our residents’ enjoyment. However, with COVID and the resulting chain supply shortages – including workers – we are, unfortunately, behind schedule. We are close – so very close to completion, and truly hope to be ready sometime after Labor Day. We will keep you posted!

In the meantime, we are also busy completing the exterior landscaping and finishing touches on our 5 new models in the new model pavilion. We are open for appointments to tour these models and are ordering new homes for new residents.

Speaking of new residents, the social committee recently held a BBQ under a tent in the cul-de-sac on Salem Lane in the community -  complete with a rented juke box and dancing! Everyone had a great time visiting with friends and neighbors and getting to know new residents. Check out the pictures below! I know the social committee is busy planning additional events for when the clubhouse opens.

A TESTIMONIAL FROM ONE OF OUR HAPPY HOMEOWNERS:

SUMMERFIELDS WEST AN EASY DECISION

FOR CHOOSEY HOMEBUYERS

Long before Rosemary and Mike Costello moved into their spacious new home at Summerfields West in Williamstown last June, the long-time Camden County residents were well acquainted with the convenient location, serene setting and extraordinary value that embody this popular 55+ community. Each time they visited their son who lives in the area, they would drive through Summerfields West on their way home to their former residence of 45 years, discovering another advantage that Summerfields West would bring to their new retirement lifestyle with every visit. “Once we decided to move to an active adult community, Summerfields West was a foregone conclusion for us,” said Rosemary. “We had driven though so many times and loved the inviting community entrance, the model homes, the tree-lined streets and the smiling faces. We’ve made so many friends so quickly since living here. In fact, after moving in, we realized that we already knew the neighbors across the street!” She also noted that relocating in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic to this safe, secure and quiet neighborhood made choosing Summerfields West all the more worthwhile. “We were familiar with everything about the community and felt extremely secure about our future,” Rosemary said. “Not to mention, our previous house sold so quickly, it was nice to know exactly where we wanted to live even before we made the move.”

Rosemary and Mike purchased the expansive Evergreen model, one of six available at Summerfields West. “We purchased the Evergreen for several reasons but mostly for the beautiful morning room. It’s so relaxing and spacious; our favorite room in the house. We also like the practicality of such a good-sized laundry room.”

The well-built homes at Summerfields West are designed to be customized to suit homeowners’ specific needs, such as expanding or reconfiguring rooms and adding lifestyle amenities. The Costellos chose a fireplace and also added 2 more feet in length to the dining room. “It was the best decision we made, because it also gave us another 2 feet in the living room, which opened up the living area tremendously,” Rosemary said. They also upgraded the kitchen cabinets, added a support beam for a future carport, extended the driveway and selected an oversized shed to accommodate Mike’s tools and other necessities. “One thing my husband noticed from the get-go, was the quality of construction that went into all of the home designs at Summerfields West. “He used to be in construction and really knows a well-built house when he sees one.” We couldn’t be happier with our wonderful house, our active lifestyle and friendly neighbors. How friendly? My husband refers to Summerfields West as ‘The Mayberry of South Jersey’.”

The accessible location of Summerfields West has always been one of its strong selling points, but even more so to the Costellos. “As fate would have it, we are now living centrally between all 3 of our children. We can visit them and they can visit us more often than if we had chosen one of the more outlying adult communities in South Jersey, where homes can be much more expensive and the lifestyle more costly to maintain,” she said. At Summerfields West, homeowners enjoy lawn mowing and roadway snow plowing services as well as no Homeowners Association Fees (HOA).

SUMMER GARDENING TIPS

  • Monitor rainfall – keep plants well-watered during heat or drought.
  • Continue to remove faded flowers on roses, annuals, and perennials & don’t fertilize trees and shrubs now.
  • Mid-August through mid-September establish a new lawn or seed in bare spots and treat lawn for grubs and Japanese beetle larvae.
  • Harvest some history: Tomatoes are North America’s most popular garden vegetable. But if you’re bored with regular old red tomatoes, try a unique colorful heirloom variety. Heirloom tomatoes are praised for being tastier and more nutritious than their store-bought red cousins.
  • Plan to plant new trees and shrubs early in September so they have time to develop a good root system and apply broadleaf week killers to your lawn.
  • Spring flowering bulbs such a tulips and daffodils can be planted from September until early November.
  • Leave the rose blossoms of summer on plants to encourage dormancy in September.
  • Divide perennials that bloom in the spring and summer in September
